VIDEOLAND & Play 5 (2020)

The documentary Summer de Snoo: Picture Perfect offers a glimpse into the life of 11-year-old Dutch model Summer de Snoo. The front of the camera lens is no unfamiliar place for young Summer from Rotterdam-Zuid. From an early age, she has modeled for various major brands.

Her modeling career is on the verge of turning into a serious professional opportunity when she signs a contract with one of the world’s largest modeling agencies, New York Model Management, in the United States.

Her future seems set, but the decision to potentially move to America comes with challenges. Summer becomes a hot topic in talk shows both in the Netherlands and internationally, and the press weighs in as well. Can a 10-year-old child really make such an important decision? Shouldn’t a child just be a child? The de Snoo family faces significant criticism and even hate comments, but that doesn’t stop young Summer.

For a year, cameras followed the talented Summer – who is also highly gifted and a skilled football player – both in her personal life and during her modeling career. Summer’s story is unique in many ways. Her daily life is a world apart from the glitter and glamour of photoshoots and encounters with designers and photographers. But life isn’t all smooth sailing. After a modeling assignment in London, the family starts to have doubts about her management and questions whether they should continue down this path.

The documentary follows Summer from the Netherlands to the United States, offering a unique and in-depth look into her life and that of her family – through both the beautiful and the difficult moments, as they navigate important decisions in the best interest of their daughter.
